Why can't I get through on the telephone ?

Our Telephone service is available on Thursdays between 10am and 3pm.  We have only two advisers to take calls so you will appreciate these lines are nearly always busy.  To overcome this we have introduced a recorded set of
advice topics, which is easy to follow and will help you with basic enquiries.  This option is available out of telephone advice line hours or when the lines are busy.

What sort of advice can you offer me?

We deal with all sorts of enquiries:

Debt, Welfare Benefits, Employment, Family & Personal, Immigration, Housing, Consumer and Legal issues (however, we are NOT solicitors).

We have a vast database of up-to-date accurate information available on a huge variety of topics.

Whatever your enquiry we will try to help you.  You may want a simple piece of information or you may have a complex problem requiring detailed casework - we can help.

If we are unable to help you ourselves, we will advise you of a more appropriate agency and if necessary make an appointment for you.....

Who are the people who give me advice?

The advisers at our Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Portishead and Nailsea drop-in services are all volunteers.  They give one to two days a week of their time for free.  They undertake an intensive one-year training programme, at the end of which they are issued with a recognised qualification.

We also employ specialist and generalist advisers, who work for our different projects.

All advisers undertake regular training to ensure that the advice you are given is up-to-date and relevant.
